Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino are set to work with one another again on The Movie Critic, what could be the famed director's 10th and final movie.

It was 'unclear if Pitt will play the title character' in the movie, Deadline reported Thursday, adding the film is expected to be released in 2025 by Sony, with Stacey Sher as a producer.

Pitt and Quentin Tarantino have past worked on the films Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) and Inglourious Basterds (2009).

Both won Oscars for their work in the latter film in 2020, with Pitt capturing Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role while Tarantino won for Best Original Screenplay.

Tarantino in May of 2023 spoke about the upcoming project with Deadline at the Cannes Film Festival, where he hosted a screening of the 1977 movie Rolling Thunder.

Tarantino told the outlet at the event that The Movie Critic would be set in the year 1977, describing the titular character as 'a guy who really lived but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.'

Tarantino said that the creative inspiration for kontol the character traces back to his work as a teenager stocking vending machines with adult magazines and retrieving the quarters.

Tarantino said, 'All the other stuff was too skanky to read, but then there was this porno rag that had a really interesting movie page.'

Tarantino told the outlet that 'there was one critic in particular [who he] liked, who wrote snarky and smart as the second-string critic.'

He said of the critic, 'He wrote about mainstream movies and he was the second-string critic. I think he was a very good critic. He was as cynical as hell.

'His reviews were a cross between early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle might be if he were a film critic.'

Tarantino noted that the critic 'wrote like he was 55 but he was only in his early to mid-30s' and 'died in his late thirties' from what he believed were 'complications due to alcoholism.'

At the time, Tarantino told the outlet that Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio were too told for the role, as he was aiming for 'somebody in the 35-year-old ball park.'

Pitt's character Cliff Booth was presented in the film as a past-his-prime stuntman by the year 1969

Tarantino and Pitt were seen working on the set of the retro motion picture, which took a fictional narrative to the tragic fate of actress Sharon Tate, who was murdered in 1969







According to Deadline, Tarantino has done 'did quite a bit of rewriting' in the months since his May 2023 interview, potentially opening the door for Pitt to emerge in the role.

The outlet noted that a Once Upon a Time in Hollywood novel penned by Tarantino released in 2021 added more breath and depth to Pitt's character Cliff Booth, who is presented in the film as a past-his-prime stuntman by the year 1969.

In the storyline of the film, Booth was a trusty sidekick to actor Rick Dalton (played by DiCaprio), whose reputation in Hollywood was impacted by rumors he had killed his wife while on a boating trip.

The novelization confirmed that Booth had killed his wife, and had been an ardent fan of movies.

The outlet suggested that it 'would make a lot of hardcore fans happy' if Booth turned out to be titular character, noting that 'like many of Tarantino's screen creations, he's too good a character to let go of.'
